Text Box:     Text Box: As one of LOWA’s top priorities, the Lake Safety committee wants to improve the reputation of the Lake of the Ozarks and stop being the “3rd Most Dangerous Waterway in the Country”. We are concerned about boating while intoxicated, inconsiderate, distracted, or inexperienced drivers, water sports in unsafe areas of the lake, and ultimately our swimmers in the water. We are partnering with and supporting Water Patrol to work together on these safety issues. Our first project in 2007 will be to work together with bars and restaurants on providing free soft drinks and perhaps dinner to the boater’s designated driver. This will keep our boaters safer, while the bars safely make money by keeping the patrons at their establishments longer. We want our economy to thrive as more tourists and full time residents begin to feel safer in their boats on weekends and holidays. Therefore, also in 2007, we want to educate our boaters on basic guidelines and common sense with operating vessels on a narrow lake such as the Lake of the Ozarks. A narrow lake like ours provides special challenges due to higher than normal waves and wakes that can cause destruction to docks and hazards to other boats and their occupants.
